Fiotec employees are doing their part with regard to the economy of paper. A survey done by the staff of the Information Technology (IT) showed that prints made at the institution in the last four months (May, June, July and August) were 59.4% lower than the amount of prints made in the same period in 2011. The accurate numbers, the prints went from 193,591 to 78,614 sheets.
Currently, it is well known the impact for the environment of excessive use of paper. To produce one ton of paper are used two or three tons of wood, and a large amount of energy and water. Therefore, reducing the use of prints is a major breakthrough.
This achievement not only comes from behavioral initiatives through campaigns, but also technical initiatives, such as the deployment of the EDM (Electronic Document Management), which in Procurement provided a big drop in the number of prints: in June 2011 amounted 66,000, and in June this year dropped to 8,054.
The Fiotec General Manager, Adilson Gomes dos Santos, reaffirms the importance of the EDM system. “The amount of papers that circulate by the institution declined significantly since the document is scanned and is concentrated in one place. This ensures that it is not lost”, he said.
Awareness campaign
In May this year, Fiotec conducted a campaign of environmental awareness. During this period, there was the beginning of selective collection, deployed by the Department of Environmental Management of Dirac/Fiocruz and employees from all sectors attended an on-site forum. During the week, employees received emails with relevant information about the importance of saving natural resources.
The IT manager, Evandro Maroni, stressed the employee engagement. “It is important to emphasize the participation of the people. It was created a collective consciousness, in which even the resistant joined the campaign and get involved”, he said.
