The Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz - Fundação Oswaldo Cruz) will receive, this year, a new unit located in Teresina in Piauí. It will be built on land belonging to the Federal University of Piauí (UFPI - Universidade Federal do Piauí) and has the objective of developing studies on biomes, infectious diseases, worker health, maternal-infant health, development of training programs, and teaching directed towards the demands of the State, among others. Fiotec supports the implantation project of the new office.
Two master's degrees at the unit are already programmed for the first semester, in the fields of Tropical Medicine and Health Surveillance. The classes can begin even before construction works are completed. Furthermore, underway are seminars with local leaders and research groups, focused on subsidizing the unit's implantation and identifying the main cooperative actions among Fiocruz and the institutions and research groups of Piauí.
In a meeting with representatives from Fiocruz, the Secretary of Health of the State of Piauí, Ernani Maia, highlighted the importance of the foundation having representation within the State and hopes that with this there will be an improvement in the health of the region and in various other aspects, such as education, research, and assistance.
Master’s Degrees and Courses
With an estimate for launching the publication still for January, the academic master’s degree in Tropical Medicine will offer 10 openings. The classes should begin in March. Regarding the professional master’s degree in Health Surveillance, it is estimated for April and will offer 20 openings.
Other partnerships between UFPI and Fiocruz estimate doctorate studies in Health and Environment, estimated for the second semester of this year, and technical courses lasting 180 hours.
