Social media has become a real phenomenon. Blogs, Facebook, Twitter, forums, YouTube, among others, are sites that are visited daily by 2/3 of the world’s population. In Brazil, 80% of people with access to the internet make use of them. For this reason, companies are increasingly taking advantage of their on-line profiles to catch people’s attention.
Believing in the importance of the networks as a communication tool, Fiotec created its profile on Facebook in September of 2011. The page reached more than thousand “likes”, which means that hundreds of users each day read the information published by the institution. Fiotec also has a profile on Twitter, currently with 218 followers.
Specialists in the subject state that social networks, provided that they are used properly, can be important allies for an institution. Through them, it is possible to avoid duplicating information, since it is a direct and official channel of communication of the institution with its public. Additionally, it is a way of providing transparency for the actions and proposals that are supported.
Fiotec’s technical consultant, Emilia Wien, responsible for the Communication sector, believes that the significant increase in the number of people following the page consolidates this network as one more institutional communication tool, which discloses the projects supported and provides credibility for the institution. "So, with the site, Facebook shows the concrete actions, the conclusion of the administrative work that we do", she said.
Subjects posted make the difference
The space is used to disseminate the reports published on the site – in Portuguese and English -, of opportunities, courses, seminars or any subject related to research in the areas of health, science and technology.
The number of visits to the content posted varies according to the theme, but the spaces offered for supported projects, and even for administration, are the posts most seen.
Sávia Soares, employee of Fiocruz Brasília, likes the page and keenly follows everything that is posted, enjoying and sharing the content. "I like to know about the events and see news about the lines of research, but I think the part about the disclosure of project spaces is very interesting", she commented.
