Collaborators of Fiotec visit the Pharmacokinetics laboratory of VPPIS/Fiocruz - Fiotec

On March 12, the Project manager, Maria Aparecida Ferreira and the Project analysts, Eliana Cavalcante and Luciana Ribeiro visited the Pharmacokinetics Laboratory (Sefar) and Pharmaceutics Equivalence Center (CEF) of the Vice-Presidency of Production and Innovation in Health (VPPIS/Fiocruz). The initiative came from the collaborators themselves, who were seeking to better understand the methodology of the studies supported by Fiotec and developed by the unit.

Sefar is responsible for conducting bio-equivalence and bio-availability studies, necessary for the registration of any medicine, whether it is generic or similar. The place has the best analytical structure for this purpose available in Brazil, obtained through financing from the Ministry of Health, the National Sanitary Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) and Fiocruz itself. Sefar is part of a network of bioequivalence laboratories distributed throughout the country, composed of 28 centers certified by Anvisa.

Through the visit, the group had the opportunity to better understand the logic of the work. "We concluded that the bio-equivalence test refers to the verification of the physical part of the medicine: rigidity, consistency, color, while the equivalence test refers to the proof of effectiveness of the tested product for use as a generic medicine", explained Eliana Cavalcante.
