Have you ever imagined a museum travelling around the cities promoting science? It does exist! Its name is “Ciência Móvel – vida e saúde para todos (Mobile Science – life and health to all)”, the itinerant museum of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), created from the partnership between the Museu da Vida da Casa Oswaldo Cruz (COC/Fiocruz) and the Fundação Centro de Ciência e Educação Superior à Distância do estado do Rio de Janeiro (Cercierj Foundation). Fiotec supports the project “Saúde e Ciência sobre Rodas (Health and Science on Wheels)”, also by COC/Fiocruz, with the purpose of supporting the museum activities, expanding its annual operation capacity and helping the construction of a joint schedule of activities for popularization of science.
The itinerant museum is carried by a truck made of a semi-trailer truck with 13.5 of length, which, after the exhibition is assembled, is turned into a modern video, short course, workshop and lecture room. The cities visited are in the Country’s Southeast region: more than 100 municipalities and more than half million people has been serviced already.
The idea is to increase those figures through the project, adding three more travels of the museum, totaling 13 travels per year and achieve the total of 53,000 visitors per year.
In addition, the project estimates the development of the “vaccine game” and of an exhibition module within the public health and immunology theme.
Activities offered
The itinerant museum offers several activities in fields as energy, like the generator bike and the human battery; optic, like the human eye models and dark chambers; sound, like the musical tubes and sound mirrors; biology, like the microscopy and snake memory; and astronomy, with the inflatable planetary. Besides, there are several exhibitions, lectures, workshops and other activities.
