Project aims at improving the service to drug users by means of professionals training - Fiotec

To support the development of courses and activities of permanent education for disseminating scientific and technologic information to workers of the Unified Health System on the matter of mental health, crack, alcohol and other drugs. This is the purpose of the project “Caminhos do Cuidado (Care Paths)”, developed by the Health Scientific and Technologic Communication and Information Institute (Icict/Fiocruz), supported by Fiotec. The idea is improving the users’ and their relatives’ attention, by means of training and qualifying professionals of the Basic Health Care Network. Almost 300,000 health workers will be trained throughout the country.

According to a study made by Fiocruz in 2013, there are 370,000 crack users in Brazil. The United Nations (UN) recorded that, in 2010, 230 million people used illicit drugs in the country. Such data increase the concern with the health of those users.

Community agents, auxiliaries and nursery technicians of Family Health will be qualified with information on the best procedures and the most efficient practices for servicing drug users, always aiming at reducing damage.

The project started in the states of Acre, Federal District, Pernambuco, Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul and São Paulo. The training included 37 learning instructors and 242 tutors, who went through 40 hours of attending training and will have 80 hours of monitoring by Distance Education (EAD), totaling 120 hours of training.

The project is developed with the Ministry of Health, and, in addition to Fiocruz, Grupo Hospitalar Conceição, in Rio Grande do Sul, and the technical schools of the Unified Health System (SUS) are partners.
