The SUS Open University reaches the milestone of 100 thousand enrollments - Fiotec

In May, the SUS Open University System (UNA-SUS), a project supported by Fiotec, reached an important milestone: more than 100,000 enrollments by health professionals throughout the country. The information was released by the UNA-SUS website. The system was created in 2010 by the Ministry of Health to meet the demands of training and continuous education of professionals working within the Unified Health System (SUS). The executive secretary of the university, reaching 100 thousand students is a milestone. "Achieving the six-digit mark is the proof that we are on track.  In terms of numbers of students, UNA-SUS is already larger than many midsize universities in Brazil” says the piece published on the website.

Decreasing the problems faced by SUSprofessionals, through permanent training is one of the main goals of the system. Therefore, the courses offered by the Network have a practical and dynamic approach using common clinical cases. All of the courses are entirely free and the distance learning was chosen, so as to facilitate access to courses.

UNA-SUS

UNA-SUS system is composed of three elements: a collaborative network of higher education institutions - which currently has 36 institutions of higher education; the Collection of Educational Resources in Health (ARES), which stores and makes available educational resources produced by the network, and offered in their courses; and the Arouca Platform.

The platform is a place where healthcare professionals can view the educational offerings of universities in the UNA-SUS system. Besides viewing and editing their educational history, printing and electronically validating their certificates and statements obtained by the courses under the UNA-SUS system. 121,569 professionals have already activated their entries in the Arouca Platform and 55,983 have accessed their profiles. Last year around 35,000 students used the Arouca platform, with 33,711 certificates issued.
