More than a place facing the preservation of biodiversity, the Horto-School of Fiocruz Atlantic Forest Campus (CFMA) in Jacarepaguá, in Rio de Janeiro, will be a place for actions for social development, environmental education and health promotion. Both the work and the activities are part of a project of restoration of the Atlantic Forest, supported by Fiotec and funded by the National Development Bank (BNDES).
Employees of Fiotec Luciana Barros, Tiago Gallardo, Monique Amaral and Eduardo Bacellar attended the inauguration ceremony, which was held on June 5th, when the World Environment Day is celebrated.
The seedlings produced in Horto-School will be used in forest restoration in the region. Actions to preserve the ecological fauna and biodiversity monitoring will also be conducted, in addition to research on the flora, seeds and zoonoses.
According to the technical coordinator, AndreaVanini, another aspect of activities is environmental education. "The idea is to promote visitation of public school students, who will have the opportunity to know how growing seeds works and all other actions taken in the place," he said.
The generation of work and income is also contemplated in the project. In partnership with the Research Institute of the Botanical Garden, 40 agents of ecological restoration were already trained and now a course for the training ofnursery menwill be held. "The focus is the qualification of adults without higher education," added Andrea.

Eduardo Bacellar, one of the reviewers who represented Fiotec at the inauguration, highlighted the integration of the professionals involved. "I participated in several projects regarding the hiring of Fiotec, however, this had special meaning because we can identify the direct participation of other sectors of the institution, thereby creating synergy in service, which is very rewarding and enriching "he opined.
The technical coordinator of the project said that the work of Fiotec is essential to make the project viable. "Without the administrative and financial management of the institution, it would not be possible to do this work," said Andrea.
