Rio de Janeiro Heritage Week takes place in August with the support of Fiotec - Fiotec

The heritage preservation in view of the impacts of major events and interventions in the territory is the topic that will be discussed at the 4th edition of the Rio de Janeiro Heritage Week (SFP), which will be held in the period of August 12th to 14th with parallel activities in various locations of the cities of Rio de Janeiro, Araruama and Paraty. Organized by various scientific and cultural institutions of the State of Rio de Janeiro, including Casa de Oswaldo Cruz (COC / Fiocruz), the SFP is being sponsored this year by Fiotec upon the Cultural Incentive Law.

The Rio de Janeiro Heritage Meeting, to be held in August 13th to 15th in the House of Culture of Paraty, is the main forum for reflection and public discussion of SFP and happens itinerantly in Rio de Janeiro as a public space for dialogue, aimed at increasing the exchange of ideas and experiences with the population.

Paraty was chosen as host city this year as numerous events that interfere with the way of life of the population take place there, and because it is located in an area affected by changes caused by major interventions. Emphasis must be given to the construction of the nuclear power plant of Angra dos Reis, the implementation of road infrastructure and, in the near future, the construction of a logistical and support hub for the oil industry resulting from the exploration of oil in pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin.

Other planned activities include a cultural competition of photography and poetry, film shows, cultural performances and other meetings at various places, always focusing on cultural diffusion and the appreciation of memory and cultural heritage of Rio de Janeiro.

History

Held annually on the National Cultural Heritage Day, celebrated on August 17th, the purpose of SFP is to promote the appreciation of natural and cultural heritage of Rio de Janeiro and expand people's knowledge about their heritage in its various expressions. Besides the fixed events, a public call is held for selection of cultural presentations, proposals by independent artists and cultural groups, to be held in one of the regions of the state of Rio de Janeiro.
