Social movements, organized communities and other populations of fields and forests show every day its role in the struggle for a sustainable and fair development in rural areas, and have developed issues such as land tenure, installation of human settlements, rural education, environmental sanitation, among others. However, the management of public policies aimed at quality of life is a still pending action, especially in the area of public health.
Diagnostics show that in rural municipalities the health policies and actions offered to the population are dispersed, discontinued and contradictory, as they insist on a restricted view of what is rural, conceiving it only as a distant geographical area of the city limits.
In order to solve such problem, the Regional Board of Brasilia (Direb/Fiocruz), with the support of Fiotec, has been developing, since 2013, the project “Leadership Training for Participatory Management of the National Comprehensive Health Policy of Field and Forest Populations”, which will train facilitators so that, in an organized manner, they may represent and articulate the interests and demands of rural communities in which they live.
In practice
The project is guided by three goals: leadership training of workers and farmers, training of rural female leaders and creation of a health, environment and agrarian reform work observatory.
The intention is to contribute to the training of union leaders operating in the municipal and state boards of health in order to foster a qualifying participation in the exercise of social control, making them, above all, aware of and involved in solving their life problems, particularly those related to health.
Results
Since its implementation, numerous events were held, such as the “National Planning Workshop” and “Mobilization and Awareness Seminar of the National Confederation of Agricultural Workers.” Furthermore, workshops for the implementation of the actions included in the goals are often held. Facilitators in each region are trained in such events.
