Since 2013, Fiotec has sponsored many cultural projects of the Oswaldo Cruz House (COC/Fiocruz), by the Cultural Incentive Law (Municipal Services Tax (ISS) Law). This year, three projects were sponsored. One of them is the "Mandela Lives Cultural Fair ", which will create a calendar of artistic attractions in the Manguinhos Complex communities, planned to take place in 2016.
Over the past four years, the territory has received public investment in sanitation, opening of roads, housing, security and social assistance. The fair complements the advances by bringing cultural appreciation. In addition to recognizing the creativity and local talent, the project encourages the movement of citizens in Rio de Janeiro through the territory, improving the collective self-esteem of local residents. So, in addition to being the protagonists of the presentations, they are involved throughout the process of creating events.
Events such as Poetry Evenings are planned, with sound and light show; exposure of the history of funk and deejaying; launch of books written by local writers; rescue of values and cultural experiences of the community through the talent show; among others.
Racial Equality
One of the project goals is to bring the issue of racial equality in the Brazilian society to the debate through art. Therefore, the choice of name which honors the patron for the project: Nelson Mandela. The project is inspired by the recognized and admired Mandela’s fight for racial equality.
Law on Cultural Incentives
Created in December 1992, the ISS Law (known as Cultural Incentive Law) provides tax incentives for the completion and development of cultural projects in the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro. In April 2013 the Local Secretary of Culture published a public notice for the registration of taxpayers and in May the list of institutions authorized to promote cultural activities of Rio de Janeiro was published, including Fiotec.
