Fiotec participated in the monitoring meeting of the ImPrEP project that was held in Mexico, on January 24 and 25, and in Peru, on January 27 and 28, both countries that are part of the program. The meeting took place with the goal of verifying, in loco, the evolution of the administrative and financial activities of partner institutions abroad, all part of the schedule of monitoring of technical and financial execution of the activities, and of wrapping up activities in these two countries.
Extension of the project was only conceded to Brazil and officially terminated the participation of Mexico and Peru. During the accountability session, a general demonstration was offered to show how much research advanced in these countries between 2017 and 2021, keeping an eye on the future challenge of keeping up with the work without the participation of the financing agents.
There was also a final financial verification, a scheduling of final reports, a review of subjects presented by current audits and a program for new auditing, negotiations on equipment to be donated to institutions in these countries, developments on partnerships with these countries as consultants in the project when it comes to the extension in Brazil, among other actions.
The program has Unitaid as contract leader and financing agent, a global health initiative acknowledged for its work of prevention and treatment for HIV/Aids, as well as Fiotec. Through their professionals, these agencies follow the financial administrative part of the program and provide a general view of the technical part. The technical part was originally led by the technical professionals of the research. Together with Fiocruz researchers, they were in charge of verifying this sector.
According to Renan Capossi, International Projects analyst, who attended the meetings, Fiotec’s participation in these visits is crucial: “We are in charge of the overall execution of the project in these two countries. Any and all liability is ours. It is therefore essential that we have maximum control over the project”. The meetings were also attended by Lidiane Nascimento, International Projects Coordinator, and Camilla Portugal, analyst of the area, who participated online.
