In a partnership with the development team of the Fiocruz Saudável Project (“Healthy Fiocruz”), Fiotec has promoted some changes in the institution’s communication channels, focusing on accessibility. For this purpose, an analysis was made to identify any problems that may arise and prevent or hamper access and use of vehicles by people with disability (PWD).

This restructuring made it possible to modify the translation tool for Libras (Brazilian Sign Language) and other visual technical actions. According to AccessMonitor, the Federal Government’s accessibility evaluator, these updates have elevated the level of accessibility of the Fiotec website from 6 to 9.4 points.

Analyzing the portal, the validator identified eight “unacceptable errors” which might make access of people with a visual disability more difficult. After the corrections, the number of errors was cut down to two, therefore complying with the more urgent accessibility requirements.

Among the changes made to the website are:

• Links for visible shortcuts, so users can go directly to the points, without having to go through other elements;
• The search field in the header (upper part of the page) was removed and turned into a link in the menu, so it can be found using the Tab key during browsing;
• Standardization of the site language as Brazilian Portuguese, so users can hear the words pronounced exactly the way they are employed in their original language;
• Alteration of contrast levels in the areas containing information on vacancies, footnotes and warning titles on the homepage.

The institutional intranet page, restricted to Fiotec employees, has also been improved. A VLibras extension was added; this is a public initiative for the translation of contents into Brazilian Sign Language. The tool was already available on the website; it was added to the intranet so that manual installation was no longer required.
