Municipal supporters hired by Fiotec participated in a series of meetings that discussed malaria eradication strategies in Brazil, mainly among the states that make up the Legal Amazon. Alongside them were coordinators and researchers linked to the State Secretariat of Health of Acre (Sesacre), as well as representatives of the Department of Health Surveillance (DVS). The event took place between May 31 and June 3, in Brasília.
The meetings discussed the control and elimination of the disease, addressing the determining factors that potentiate the increase in malaria cases. And, from the point of view of disease management, the use of the information system as a tool for decision-making in prevention actions and supervision in laboratories was also discussed.
Fiotec is responsible for managing the project titled “Municipal Supporters for the Prevention, Control and Elimination of Malaria”, currently in its fifth phase. In addition to managing the resources allocated to the initiative, the institution hires professionals to work in cities in the Amazon region, known as municipal supporters. These teams are trained to analyze data and guide disease control interventions, based on the protocols of the National Malaria Control Program. The idea is that knowledge in epidemiological surveillance is gradually passed on, through joint work, to state and municipal management teams, thus guaranteeing their autonomy in preventing and fighting malaria.
