Directed by Silvio Tendler, “Saúde tem Cura” premiered on June 8 on the YouTube channel of movie production company Caliban. The movie was produced with the support of Fiocruz in partnership with Fiotec, and tells the story of the creation of the Unified Health System (SUS) until the global emergency caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The feature tells that the SUS began to be conceived during the post-dictatorship period, in 1988, when the Brazilian Constitution was signed. The objective was to ensure that all people, regardless of external conditions, had access to public health, which was previously intended exclusively for people who contributed to social security.
Through a return to the past, viewers will be able to understand how the health system worked at the time, in addition to bringing together the characters who fought to make it possible to create an universal and completely free system. Some professionals known by the population also participated in the documentary: Drauzio Varella, Paulo Niemeyer, Nísia Trindade, and Margareth Dalcolmo.
Users and professionals who worked in health units participated to talk about the pandemic context. Currently, the SUS welcomes about 190 million people spread across the most different parts of the country. In addition, the system was responsible for distributing vaccines against the coronavirus even in more remote areas, such as in regions of the Amazon.
