Fiotec held the second position in the ranking of purchases of inputs abroad in the national survey, in 2021. According to the Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico; CNPq (National Council for Scientific and Technological Development), 180 entities summed up the amount of US$ 193 million in tax-free imports of inputs, as they are part of the quota made available by the CNPq itself.
The institution, in its support of projects developed by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), generated more than US$ 25 million, second only to the Butantan Foundation, which imported just over US$ 47 million in inputs for scientific and technological research. “We had an increase in consumables compared to 2020, I believe that due to the acquisition of inputs for Fiocruz’s Covid-19 vaccine development project”, comments Elisangela Bevitori, coordinator of Foreign Trade at Fiotec.
Fiotec was responsible for the financial management and acquisition of products and supplies for the technology transfer project that ensured the production of the AstraZeneca vaccine here in Brazil. Today, with this process completed, Bio-Manguinhos/Fiocruz produces a 100% national immunizer against Covid-19, without the need to import its Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API).
