A new datacenter of the Center for Data Integration and Knowledge for Health (Cidacs/Fiocruz Bahia) was inaugurated on June 09th, in the Technological Park of Bahia. The opening event had the presence of officers, researchers and technicians from several units of Fiocruz, in addition to national and international representatives of varied science and technology institutions.

The center has the purpose of increasing the storage and integration of social and health data, which will be gathered in one single place. Such information will provide support to the related institutions concerning social determinants of health, epidemiological aspects related to diseases, and assessments of public policies.

Nísia Trindade, president of Fiocruz, reinforced the importance of the datacenter in a video sent for the ceremony. According to her, the equipment may enhance the data analysis with safety and speed, expanding the analysis capacity for both administrative and health data.

During the event, information security was also discussed, following the rules provided by the General Data Protection Law (GDPL). The general coordinator for Strategic Actions on Clinical Research of the Science, Technology and Innovation Department of the Ministry of Health (Decit/MS), Max Nóbrega, emphasized the expertise of Cidacs/Fiocruz in managing huge volumes of data with great information security.

The project was supported by Fiotec and funded by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), along with Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The institution was responsible for the acquisition of services and installations, such as the provision of the executive project and other electrical equipment for the operation of the datacenter.
