The 42nd edition of the Ser Humano Award (Human Being/Being Human), promoted by the Brazilian Association of Human Resources of Rio de Janeiro (ABRH-RJ), took place on November 23rd, at Jockey Clube do Brasil. As one of the finalists, Fiotec was represented by the Manager of Human Management, Raquel Raad; by the Human Resources Coordinator, Patrícia Lopes; Analyst of Development and Selection, Camila Dantas; Human Resources Assistant, Paolla Miranda; and social worker Juliana Freitas.
At the occasion, the institution was granted a finalist’s plaque in the category Third Sector Organizations, according to the rules of the event. The case selected for the award was “Programa Conviver - inclusion from propositional to spontaneous”, an initiative that promotes diversity, inclusion and qualification of people with disabilities.
According to Patrícia Lopes, Human Resources Coordinator, this award is a milestone for Fiotec. “Being acknowledged is very important, because it shows we’re on the right track. There are so many enterprises in the competition. We ended up in the top three. We know this is about the process of building a more diverse enterprise/foundation. This is our starting point. Integrating and qualifying more PWDs is not an isolated fight: it is an effort by everyone, because we all need people with and without disabilities to be at the same finishing line”, she states.
Programa Conviver is inclusion
In the past few years, Fiotec has focused especially on the pillar of diversity regarding the inclusion of people with disabilities (PWCs), understanding their main characteristics and challenges in the job market and driven by the adjustment to the Brazilian legislation, with Quota Act no. 8213/1991 (BRAZIL, 1991) and the Brazilian Inclusion Law (13.146/2015). In this context, the Foundation noticed the need to go beyond just hiring PWDs and intends to turn the workplace into something that is effectively inclusive.
Programa Conviver was created in 2016 with the goal of raising awareness, amongst the institution’s professionals, about the breaking of paradigms and stereotypes when it comes to people with disabilities. Fiotec employees volunteered to train people with disabilities on subjects that focus on employability, such as labor rights, team work, interpersonal communication and relationships, among others.
From there, in addition to attracting, training and hiring PWDs to comply with the Quota Act, the goal of Programa Conviver also encompassed improving the relationship and integration among professionals with and without disabilities, increasing collaboration and synergy between teams and consolidating work relations even further, transforming the work environment into a place of actual appreciation of diversity.
