Psychiatrists, nurses, nursing technicians, social workers and psychologists hired by Fiotec worked together with professionals from the Health Department of the government of Petrópolis in the development of a report that will support the development of disease prevention and health promotion actions in areas affected by the tragedies of February and March 2022. The work took place between the months of August and November of last year, in the neighborhoods of Alto da Serra and adjacent areas in Petrópolis, such as Vila Felipe and Chácara Flora; Sargento Boening; Floresta; Caxambu; Lusitano; Siméria; São Sebastião; and 24 de Maio.
The teams made up one of the goals of Vigiar-SUS Network nationwide project, which has been jointly managed by Fiocruz and Fiotec since 2020. The activities in Petrópolis, located in the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro, were aimed at dealing with disasters, and carried out with the technical assistance of the Itaboraí Forum, in partnership with the Municipal Government of Petrópolis. “Fiotec was responsible for hiring 16 professionals, who worked during the three-month period. The team was physically located in the places most affected by the disasters occurred last year, in direct contact with the population, mapping the situation of the inhabitants”, explained analyst Janaina Francisco, responsible for monitoring the management of the project at Fiotec.
Professionals linked to Vigiar-SUS Network recognized the communities to identify where the families affected by the tragedies are located, the things they went through and their ties with the territory. The idea is to promote health from the perspective of those who live in the region and are well aware of its vulnerabilities and potential.
Vigiar-SUS Network to Fight Covid-19
The project managed by Fiotec has the main objective of making the national health surveillance network more robust and prepared, in terms of facing public health emergencies in Brazil. Its initiatives are aimed at structuring laboratories to fight Covid-19 at Fiocruz, expanding knowledge about the disease, in addition to training professionals from Cievs, Renaveh, and the Training Program in Epidemiology Applied to the Services of the Unified Health System (EpiSUS).
