The Science, Health and Solidarity in the Fight Against Covid-19 Project, developed by Fiocruz Amazônia in a partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), has the goal of reducing vaccination barriers in riverside, quilombola and migrant communities in the Amazon region. The goal is to bring knowledge and to raise awareness to the population through strategies and actions of popular education, communication, scientific popularization and fight against disinformation.
In addition, genomic and proteomic surveillance actions were carried out to help monitor Covid-19 cases in these communities. One of the fronts of this project also relies on the qualification of Community Health Agents in the region through courses, raising awareness on the importance of vaccination as an effective prevention tool.
“Fiocruz Amazônia chipped in with its expertise in the field of science, innovation, and the technical part of field activities. Fiotec has the main goal of carrying out logistic and administrative support and financial management of the projects”, said Marcelle Milauski, Fiotec Project Analyst.
Partnership
In Brazil, USAID, NPI EXPAND and SITAWI Finanças do Bem have joined hands to create a partnership to support the Covid-19 response in the Amazon. Between 2020 and 2021, the first phase of NPI EXPAND Response to COVID-19 project in Amazon distributed more than 23,000 food baskets and hygiene kits, trained more than 500 community health agents, donated more than 1.4 million masks made by local seamstresses and spread educational prevention messages to more than 875,000 people in the region.
