Grand Challenges Brazil releases results of financed projects in a reformulated portal - Fiotec

Grand Challenges Brazil, a program that invests in high-impact research to solve big health and development challenges, has reformulated its Internet portal to offer users an even more complete experience. The page provides information on the work developed by researchers, in addition to developments and results of the projects financed by the initiative.

The program was created in 2003 by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, in a partnership with the Brazilian Ministry of Health by means of its Science, Technology, Innovation and Health Complex Secretary (Sectics), the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), and the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (Confap). Fiocruz is responsible for coordinating the initiative in Brazil and relies on Fiotec for support in administrative and financial management activities.

In 2013 Grand Challenges Brazil launched its first call, on Prevention and Handling of Premature Births. Between 2014 and 2022, six other public calls were issued on subjects that were relevant to the Ministry of Health, financing a total of 69 projects to this day. During those years, Finotec innovated in the model of support offered to the selected institutions, working as liaison between the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and researchers from different organizations and universities from all over Brazil.
