Next Wednesday (18/10) at 10 a.m., the Advanced Seminars in Global Health and Health Diplomacy will address the theme Vaccines and Immunization - Challenges for Global Equity. To handle the matter, the webinar will have the participation of Jarbas Barbosa, director of the Pan American Health Organization. The event will be broadcast in Portuguese, Spanish and English.
Organized by the Center of International Relations in Health (Cris/Fiocruz), the seminars discuss a special theme every fifteen days. Jarbas Barbosa will comment on the challenges in the continent. This time, he, who has appeared in other seminars of Cris, will make a recorded participation, as he will be leaving Berlin, where he attended the World Health Summit, for Washington.
Director of the National Immunization Program, Eder Gatti will address the work of increasing the vaccination coverage in Brazil. The Vice President of Production and Innovation in Health (VPPIS/Fiocruz), Marco Krieger will share the news on vaccines. And the researcher of the Institute of Collective Health Studies (IESC) of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Claudia Gallardi, will discuss fake news surrounding the theme.
Coordinator of Cris, Paulo Buss explains that the event will handle not only the lessons learned from Covid-19, but also the innovations in the field. “Covid-19 showed a concentration of vaccines in wealthy countries, while people in developing countries could not be immunized. Not only that, the denialism regarding the vaccines during the pandemic also affected other vaccines,” Buss points out, bringing forth new perspectives. “There is a whole technological revolution in the field of vaccination. And the seminar seeks to bring it to light.”
Margareth Dalcomo will be in charge of the introduction and mediation. Researcher at the Sergio Arouca National School for Public Health (Ensp/Fiocruz), Dalcolmo is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and, since February, ambassador of the national movement for vaccination by the Ministry of Health.
