On January 26th, the national competition for the new architectural and landscape project was launched for the Covid-19 memorial, which will be built at the Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (Fiocruz) headquarters in Manguinhos. The competition is promoted in partnership with the Rio de Janeiro Department of the Institute of Architects of Brazil (IAB-RJ) and is sponsored by Fiotec.
The opening ceremony had architects and urbanists duly registered in the Council of Architecture and Urbanism participate in the competition. Registrations can be made individually or in teams, as previously defined in the notice.
The land to be worked on measures 3,380m2 and is located near the main entrance to Fiocruz, in the Rio de Janeiro headquarters. The project will have a water mirror, a fountain and a green area. As it is a historically and culturally significant preserved area, the proposals must follow the guidelines recommended by the Institute of National Historical and Artistic Heritage (Iphan).
The winner proposal will be contracted to develop the executive project of the memorial, with a contract valued in R$ 1.5 million. The first three ranked will receive a total of R$ 40 thousand in prizes.
The notice with all the details on the future memorial monument to the Covid-19 pandemic will be available on the website for the competition as of February 19th. Register, check and submit your proposal exclusively on the official website for the competition.
The vice-president of Biological Research and Collections at Fiocruz, Maria de Lourdes Aguiar; the director of Casa de Oswaldo Cruz (COC/Fiocruz), Marcos José Pinheiro; the head of the Historical Heritage Department at Fiocruz, Renato da Gama-Rosa; and the coordinator of the competition, Claudio Crispim attended the event.
