Fiotec supports a project which is actually a “manifesto against forgetting.” The initiative Memória Viva (Live Memory), leaded by researcher Marcia Lenzi, will pay tribute to the victims of Covid-19 in panels installed in the main wall of Campus Maré and on the Maré favelas. The project is part of a memorial to keep alive the memories and struggles of so many lives lost during the pandemic.
The initiative is working on two 150m2 tall panels, with around 6,500 tiles each. The pieces are being produced by the Fiocruz community and by residents of Maré. In the beginning of April, we began the classes of Campus Maré, which will participate in weekly classes on room 1007 of the main building, on Mondays or Wednesdays, in two different times: in the morning and on the lunch break. On the 22nd, we began the workshops in Campus Manguinhos, at Estação Asfoc-SN, also on Mondays or Wednesdays, in two different times.
Being good at drawing or is having previous experience with tiling is not required to participate in the workshops and leave your contribution. All the materials and guidance necessary to produce the pieces are covered, and the participants also get to watch an introduction on the Azulejaria studio, partner of Fiocruz and Redes da Maré in the execution of the project.
The tiles are illustrated with markers, brushes and special paints which do not stain clothes. The participants get to draw, write messages, record the names of loved ones or whatever they want. Then, the pieces are taken to the kiln, an oven for ceramics, which ensures the stability of the colors and drawings.
