On April 24th and 25th, the National Workshop of the Fiocruz Certification Program for the Mother’s Milk Bank - PCFioBLH/Fiocruz and the SUS-2024 National Meeting of the Reference Centers of Mother’s Milk Bank took place at Hotel Windsor Guanabara, in Rio de Janeiro. On the occasion, Fiotec was represented by Natália Salvador, Fabio Machado and Luciene Conceição, from Project Management.
Fiotec has a long partnership with the Network of Mother’s Milk Banks through its support to projects in the past several years. “Being able to participate in this workshop was very special for us, especially in the year of the 100th anniversary of Instituto Fernandes Figueira, celebrated on the 04/16. The Network of Mother’s Milk Banks makes us very proud, and many of our colleagues here at Fiotec have been able to participate in the action, whether learning a little about breastfeeding or donating their own milk. It was very important getting to know some of the professionals involved in the program and learning that they are as much in love with the program as we are,” states Natalia Salvador, Project coordinator.
Fiocruz Certification Program for Mother’s Milk Bank
The program is a strategic action by Fiocruz and the Ministry of Health aiming to strengthen the scientific, productive, technological, administrative and quality assurance capabilities of the Global Network of Mother’s Milk Banks, aiming to supply the demands from the SUS and the cooperating countries, in the scope of food and nutritional safety in the care of newborn and breastfed babies.
The goal is to provide the Network of Mother’s Milk Banks with a formal system to continuously assess the actions developed by the units which integrate it, ensuring the quality of the products, processes and services; thus maintaining a continuous and dynamic system of information on improvement opportunities directed to the different levels of management of the institutions. On this field, in which the assurance of access and quality of the mother’s milk are the pillars of the food and nutritional safety of newborn and breastfed babies, the certification is decisive, and the PCFioBLH is an innovation to the service of SUS.
At the same time as those events celebrate the 100th anniversary of the National Institute of Women, Children and Adolescents Health Fernandes Figueira, they also reaffirm the commitment of IFF/Fiocruz, built throughout the four last decades, in leading the operation of the Brazilian government in the Mother’s Milk Banks, as strategic action to reduce the inevitable deaths of newborn and breastfed babies, as well as to prevent the occurrence of non-transmissible chronic illnesses.
