146x Favelas event promotes integration and strengthening of community projects at the Museum of Life - Fiotec

On August 2nd the Museum of Life hosted an event called “Health, Partnerships and Networks - 146x Favelas", an initiative that brought together several organizations and institutions committed to promoting health and strengthening communities in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. The meeting was organized by Fiocruz in partnership with other academic and social institutions, and emphasized the importance of cooperation and of a support network for the success of community projects.

The activities began in the morning, with an orientation session dedicated to the 56 new organizations that are now part of the program. Led by the Executive Coordination team and with the participation of Fiotec, represented by Aparecida Ferreira, Project manager, and by Cristianfari Alles, accountability analyst.

The goal of this first session was to clear any doubts regarding the execution of the projects. “This orientation is crucial to ensure that all organizations are aligned and prepared to implement their projects in an effective manner”, said Ferreira.

The event continued through the afternoon, with presentations of results and discussions about future actions. Representatives of partner institutions such as Fiotec, UFRJ, UERJ, PUC, IFF, UENF, Abrasco, SBPC, CONASEMS-RJ and Alerj, in addition to two favela organizations, attended the discussions, reinforcing the collective commitment to health in the favelas.

According to Ferreira, this was an opportunity to get to know the strength of these organizations, what they promote in and for society. “Knowing how Fiotec works in this connection is transforming”, she concluded.

Fiotec’s support

The event was also an opportunity to underscore the role played by Fiotec in providing support to the NGOs involved in the projects. Alles listed Fiotec’s responsibilities in more detail: these include drawing up the Terms of Agreement, sending funds to the selected organizations, and checking financial accountability.

At the event, Richarlis Martins, president of the National Commission on Population and Development, highlighted Fiotec’s competence and agility in responding to the demands of these organizations and stated that “the institution has been crucial in providing help to the NGOs, making sure that all steps of the project are carried out with transparency and efficacy”.
