Fiotec is participating in the 1st International Summit of Territories and Knowledges, which will take place until Sunday, September 15th, in Paraty (RJ), bringing together indigenous peoples, members of quilombos, and scholars from Brazil and other countries. The meeting was created in 2024 as a space to strengthen the debate on guaranteeing the rights of traditional populations and communities, as well as their important contribution for the conservation of the environment.
Professionals of Fiotec’s Projects and Legal teams are living the experience of seeing, in practical terms, activities implemented in projects supported by the institution. The Summit is the main purpose of a project and one of the goals of another, both jointly managed by the Vice-Presidency of Environment, Healthcare and Health Promotion (VPAAPS) of Fiocruz.
In addition to a full calendar that brings together traditional communities, civil society, government and international organizations, the event promotes a great diverse fair starred by local artists and producers from more than 20 caiçara, indigenous and quilombola communities. The space is also a backdrop for cultural manifestations of these populations, with handcraft exhibits and a series of traditional and musical performances.
The 1st International Summit of Territories and Knowledges is the result of a partnership between Fiocruz, the Traditional Communities Forum (FCT) and the Observatory of Sustainable and Healthy Territories of Bocaina (OTSS), a program supported by Fiotec since 2009. The Federal Fluminense University (UFF), the Paulista State University (Unesp) and Colégio Pedro II school also contributed for the realization of the event.
