On September 18, Fiocruz Bahia hosted a meeting that discussed the initiation and submission of international projects with the support of Fiotec. The meeting was part of the CidascstaON program, an initiative of the Center for the Integration of Data and Knowledge for Health (Cidacs).
Renata Alves and Thiago Lima, International Initiation analysts at Fiotec, led presentations on the process of submitting proposals in public notices opened by two major international funders: National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Wellcome Trust. They explained how the institution's performance in this work takes place, as well as the role of the Fiocruz researcher in the submissions.
Specifically in Wellcome Trust notices, Fiotec works by closely monitoring all stages of submission, clarifying doubts and instructing applicants, but the filling in of the information in the organization's system is necessarily done by the Fiocruz researcher.
Renata also warned of the importance of respecting the deadlines, as well as being aware of the currency in which the funds from the public notice will be transferred, usually Pounds or Dollars. Other doubts were raised by the participants and clarified with the help of Fernanda Revorêdo and Valentina Martufi, from the Cidacs team, who acted as mediators at the meeting.
Joint work aimed at internationalization
Since July 2023, the beginning of the management of its current Board of Directors, Fiotec has as a guideline the growth of its institutional presence on the international scenario. Investment in raising external funds from private funders is an important part of this strategy and is directly aligned with the internationalization process that Fiocruz itself develops in its units.
