COC/Fiocruz seminar discusses the preservation of the country's scientific and cultural heritage - Fiotec

At the end of March, the Casa de Oswaldo Cruz (COC) held the Preservo Seminar, which, among other topics, discussed possibilities for increasing funding for projects aimed at preserving and structuring the country's scientific and cultural heritage.
At the invitation of the director of COC/Fiocruz, Marcos José Pinheiro, the executive director of Fiotec, Cristiane Sendim, took part in the panel discussion "Financing the cultural heritage of science and health". In her speech, the manager made a point of presenting the support foundation and the work it does in detail to an audience that, according to her, doesn't have a very close relationship with the institution.
Cristiane mentioned the ongoing bill that discusses the relationship between support foundations and Science and Technology Institutes (ICTs), highlighting the possibility of suggesting the inclusion of the concept of scientific and cultural heritage preservation projects in the final text of the regulations.
Alongside the director of Fiotec at the table were Marcelo Pelajo, coordinator of Biological Collections at Fiocruz; Juana Pereira, secretary of Science and Technology for Social Development at the MCTI; Luciana Gorgulho, head of the Department of Urban Development, Heritage and Tourism at the BNDES; and Guilherme Moreira, director of Scientific and Technological Development at Finep.
During her speech, Juana Pereira publicly thanked Fiotec and Fiocruz for making it possible to hold the 5th Conference on Science, Technology and Collections in 2024. "Fiotec has expanded its area of negotiation and fundraising to subsidize projects developed by Fiocruz and its researchers. We have diversified the sources of these funds," Cristiane added.
