Fiotec Apoia: new series dives behind the scenes of major Fiocruz projects - Fiotec

Last week, Fiotec debuted a new series of contents to present to society projects of national and international relevance developed by Fiocruz. The production Fiotec Supports – Fiocruz Projects that impact lives is available on the institution's YouTube channel.

The team led by Fiotec's Communication staff dives behind the scenes of major initiatives developed by Fiocruz to strengthen public health and innovation in science in Brazil. The material relies on the participation of researchers and managers of the Foundation, in addition to gathering testimonies from representatives of the communities benefited by such initiatives. The idea of the contents is also to show how the partnership between Fiocruz and Fiotec takes place in the development of these projects. The support foundation is responsible for the logistical and financial management of many of these studies and research projects, enabling their operational sustainability and reaching millions of Brazilians.

The first episode of the series presents the impact of the World Mosquito Program project in Brazil and how the Wolbachia Method contributes to the reduction of arbovirus transmission in several cities. Check it out: https://youtu.be/xNSOfJKG7LA

The initiative recently reached a new milestone with the inauguration of the largest biofactory in the world specializing in the breeding of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes with the Wolbachia bacterium, Wolbito do Brasil. The unit, located in the Industrial City of Curitiba, was officially inaugurated last Saturday (19/7).

The implementation of the Wolbachia Method is the result of the effort of the Ministry of Health (MS), in partnership with Fiocruz and WMP, and has so far benefited about 5 million Brazilians. This number is expected to reach 70 million in the coming years, since the Ministry of Health has incorporated the Wolbachia Method as one of the national strategies to combat arboviruses.
