Fiocruz secures over BRL 60 million for projects in Finep's public call for proposals - Fiotec

With direct support from Fiotec, Fiocruz Ceará, Fiocruz Rondônia, Fiocruz Paraná, Fiocruz Pernambuco, as well as the Bio-Manguinhos and Farmanguinhos units, had their proposals approved in the MCTI/Finep/FNDT Thematic Centers 2024 Public Call,

launched in December of last year. Its objective is to strengthen the already established National Centers for Scientific and Technological Research Infrastructure, in addition to supporting applied research projects focused on the implementation and improvement of infrastructure—preferably multi-user—in the thematic areas of energy transition, ecological transition, digital transformation, health, and defense, contributing to addressing the country's strategic challenges.

The call also aims to foster cooperation between Research Infrastructure Centers and Research Support Foundations (FAPs), ensuring the sustainability and operability of laboratories, as well as the development of innovative solutions in the prioritized areas.

The Fiotec National Project Initiation team, represented by analysts Adrielly Faria and Marcia Perdonati, spearheaded the work that generated robust and competitive proposals for the Fiocruz units involved. After five months of meetings and technical adjustments, on May 9th each of the units presented its overall proposal and sub-project.

The results of the Public Call announced the approval of proposals from the six units, across different thematic areas. In total, more than R$ 60 million was approved for use in projects focused on ecological transition and health. Adding all the submissions made by Fiocruz to the Financing Agency for Studies and Projects (Finep) in 2024, more than R$ 200 million in resources have been allocated to the Foundation's initiatives.

To continue supporting Fiocruz in its submissions, Fiotec actively monitors the opening of new public calls for proposals. The idea is to expand fundraising and contribute to strengthening the research and innovation infrastructure of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation.
