In order to discuss the environmental challenges for which the planet has been facing, the Casa Oswaldo Cruz (COC/Fiocruz) – Museu da Vida – in partnership with the United Nations for Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) promotes the “ScenaRIOs: a project to engage young people in the discussion on climate change”, which is supported by Fiotec.
The program involves young students of science centers from different countries and socio and environmental realities, with the purpose to encourage reflection about environmental responsibility and the central themes of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20), to be held in June in Rio de Janeiro.
The ScenaRIOs is aimed at students between 15 and 18 years old, from nine science centers in Brazil, Australia, Canada, China, Colombia, Denmark, Israel, Mozambique, Singapore and the United States. The idea is that each group will meet to develop one of six pilot projects of the program, which include, among other themes, access to clean water, alternative sustainable energy and green energy, and sustainability. Students from Museu da Vida, for example, were in charge of developing the project on climate change and its impacts on health.
Results
The results of all projects developed by young ScenaRIOs, with discussions, findings and solutions will be available on the web. The Museu da Vida is launching a blog with students’ views on the subject worked, so they can exchange experiences with students covered by ScenaRIOs in Mozambique.
