Cough, fever, and loss of smell. These are the three main symptoms of Covid-19, widely disclosed and discussed since the onset of the pandemic, right? However, the data from an application analyzed by British scientists of King's College London points out the existence of six different types of the same disease, each one of them with a specific set of symptoms.

The team also discovered that these six types of Covid-19 are related to the severity levels of the infection, and to the chances of a patient needing respiratory support in case of hospitalization. This conclusion may help the doctors to predict which patients would be in a higher risk and those that, probably, would need hospital care in future epidemic waves.

What also helps in the response to the pandemic, in addition to avoid more severe cases of the disease, is to seek medical attention as soon as the symptoms related to Covid-19 are observed. Earlier this month, the Ministry of Health changed the strategy for coronavirus response, instructing people to seek medical attention instead of waiting the worsening of the symptoms.

Other symptoms attributed to the disease, according to the application data, include headaches, muscular pain, fatigue, diarrhea, confusion, loss of appetite and breathlessness. The disclosed study based on the analysis of such data described the six types of Covid-19 as:

Flu without fever: headache, loss of smell, muscular pain, cough, sore throat, chest pain, no fever.

Flu with fever: headache, loss of smell, cough, sore throat, hoarseness, fever, loss of appetite.

Gastrointestinal: headache, loss of smell, loss of appetite, diarrhea, sore throat, chest pain, no cough.

Severe level one, fatigue: headache, loss of smell, cough, fever, hoarseness, chest pain, fatigue.

Severe level two, confusion: headache, loss of smell, loss of appetite, cough, fever, hoarseness, sore throat, chest pain, fatigue, confusion, muscular pain.

Severe level three, abdominal and respiratory: headache, loss of smell, loss of appetite, cough, fever, hoarseness, sore throat, chest pain, fatigue, confusion, muscular pain, breathlessness, diarrhea, abdominal pain.
