Fiotec professionals traveled to São Paulo, on November 6, to get a closer look at the work done by the Butantan Institute and Foundation, responsible for the production of immunizers and various types of serums against toxins from venomous animals and microorganisms.
Fiotec's legal manager, Marianna Camargo, says that the visit served as a great benchmark. Alongside Mansur Campos, financial and integrity director, the lawyer learned about the work processes of the Butantan Foundation, its physical structure and legal organization.
At another time, already at the Butantan Institute, the professionals were introduced to the laboratory structure of the largest producer of vaccines and serums in Latin America. The Institute is responsible for 100% of the doses of vaccine against the influenza virus used in the National Flu Vaccination Campaign.
The Butantan Institute
As a response to an outbreak of bubonic plague, the then Serotherapy Institute was established in 1901 in the west zone of the city of São Paulo. More than a century later, Butantan is today a reference biomedical research center, which integrates scientific and technological research, production of immunobiological compounds and technical-scientific dissemination.
