In a strategic effort that unites health, social justice and research, Fiocruz develops various projects that promote the protection of rights and dignity for the population. The partnership with the Labor Prosecutor's Office (MPT) transforms reparations for collective damages into direct and effective actions that make a difference in the lives of workers affected by occupational diseases. This collaboration is what makes it possible to develop high-impact projects in various regions of the country:

Workers' Health and Human Ecology (Cesteh)
This project guarantees continuous assistance and active surveillance for workers exposed to harmful substances that have a long latency time for the onset of diseases, such as asbestos. As well as offering support to patients and their families, Cesteh trains professionals from the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS) in innovative procedures and the use of advanced equipment.

MRNA platform: national autonomy
Faced with dependence on foreign supplies and laboratories, Fiocruz was selected by the World Health Organization (WHO) as the center for development and production of vaccines using mRNA technology in Latin America. This technological advance will not only remedy vulnerability in cases such as Zika and Oropouche, but will also enable development of immunobiologicals for cancer and other diseases, which will be made available by SUS.

Emergency and disaster response: United for Life
This action improved the health of populations affected by heavy floods in Rio de Janeiro and Rio Grande do Sul. The MPT's support enabled the distribution of over 12,000 hygiene and cleaning items, drinking water, diagnostic kits for leptospirosis and hepatitis E, as well as installing support kitchens, providing immediate relief to the communities.

Strengthening communities: Coconut Breakers
By qualifying local players (health, education, trade unions) in municipalities in Maranhão, the project strengthens and supports traditional communities, such as the Quebradeiras de Coco (Coconut Breakers). The focus is on guaranteeing the right to health, reducing vulnerabilities and offering support to workers exposed to risks such as BTEXs in oil and gas projects.

Fiotec is a Fiocruz partner in this endeavor
The support foundation actively participates in this strategic effort through workshops and institutional coordination, promoting debate on the challenges and advancements related to current legislation and the procedures resulting from actions conducted in cooperation with the MPT. Lucas Mata, analyst from Fiotec's Project Initiation team, explains that these discussions are aimed at “aligning work flows between the institutions, increasing efficiency, strengthening legal certainty and ensuring correct application of resources, thus contributing to the improvement of public policies on health, work and the protection of social rights”.

He emphasizes that Fiotec maintains its commitment to supporting Fiocruz in executing projects funded with MPT resources, working with diligence, transparency and, above all, compliance with the Foundation's strategic guidelines. “This commitment materializes in the responsible management of resources and in continuous search for processes that ensure the integrity and effectiveness of the collectively developed initiatives”, he added.
