On the 16th and 17th of May, the "What Health Channel do you want to see?" seminar was held at the International Exhibition of the National School of Public Health Sergio Arouca (ENSP / Fiocruz). The event is part of the Disclosure and Mobilization Project for the Health Channel, supported by Fiotec. The institution was represented by Project analyst Thiago Lopes, who had his work praised by the project coordinator and Health Channel superintendent, Marcia Correa e Castro, who also stressed Fiotec's importance.
"Fiotec has been fundamental for our finding ways and better solutions in order to fulfill the purpose of the seminar. Apart from that, the experience the institution has in the health area is a facilitating element to hold this event", said Marcia. During two days, representatives from 24 state health secretariats, 17 state boards of health, 14 boards of municipal health secretariats and 12 national institutions such as the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass) and the National Council of Municipal Secretariats (Conasems), plotted, together, guidelines and changes for the channel. The purpose is to expand coverage, regional content production and the dissemination of the Health Channel.
Disclosure and Mobilization Project for the Health Channel
The Health Channel is on the air since 2010 and can be watched from every Brazilian home anywhere in Brazil that possesses a common dish antenna, as well as by all municipal health councils. Over the last years significant investments have been made in the structuring of the station and the expansion and diversification of its programming. The intention is that, being a TV channel turned towards the Sole Health System (SUS), it be able to disseminate the wider concept of health and to explain the functioning of the public health system.
The investments, however, only make sense if there is a significant audience. As the channel is not on the open TV VHA frequency, one that families can watch without any access device or subscription, it is necessary for the viewer to seek the channel, which happens the moment he sees benefits in it and gets interested in its programming. Therefore, the project's purpose is to mobilize the audience through discussions, changes and dissemination of the Health Channel.
Health Channel
The Health Channel is a Public Health System's (SUS) television station, based at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz). It is on the air daily from 9am to 7pm, with own productions and in partnership with independent producers and other institutions. The Health Channel is willing to abide its content by suggestions from citizens and puts itself at the service of health professionals to contribute to their work.
