After the profiles on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, it is now time for Fiocruz to make its presence felt on the most prominent social network of all, TikTok. The new profile of the institution on the platform adds to the strategy of reaching and being in touch with the younger audience and bringing science and technology to the everyday life of the network.
TikTok, which recently reached the 1 billion monthly active users mark, is the fastest growing social network, named as the most downloaded app of 2020, surpassing even Facebook. Today, several companies and institutions have realized the network's great potential for reaching new audiences.
In the Covid-19 pandemic scenario, the launch of Fiocruz posts on the app is also necessary to spotlight information about vaccines and to provide content aimed at decreasing fake news.
According to the coordinator of Social Communication at Fiocruz, Elisa Andries, the idea of setting up the Foundation's profile on the app was decided by the constant spontaneous mentions of Fiocruz and the possibility of sharing content on public health and science and technology for younger audiences, present in large numbers.
In Brazil, TikTok is already one of the largest social networks, with about 7 million registered users, sharing and interacting with the platform's content on a daily basis. The younger audience makes up about 40% of the platform, but the app is also catering to all ages.
The first Fiocruz video on TikTok told a little about the history of the Moorish Castle and presented in style the great symbol of the institution and of Brazilian science. The profile that the Foundation invites everyone to follow is @oficialfiocruz.
Starting this week, the programming of the videos on the platform will also be destined to divulge the 18th National Week of Science and Technology (SNCT 2021), which this year will discuss the transversality of science, technology, and innovations for the world, in a series of online activities between October 4th and 8th.
