Fiocruz, through the United Against Covid-19 Program, has won the 25th Public Sector Innovation Contest, by the National School of Public Administration (Enap), within the category “Innovation in Organizational Processes in the Federal, State and Federal District’s Executive Branch.” The program, created during the pandemic, enhanced a dozen of Fiocruz initiatives throughout the country, uniting companies, society, the Judicial Branch, and social organizations for the Brazil’s Unified Health System strengthening. Until this moment, the total funds raised stand at R$ 505,619,972.99, facilitating the construction of two analytical centers, the adaptation of the vaccine factory, the acquisition of oxygen plants for the Amazon region, the support for the construction of the Covid-19 Hospital Center, the donation of thousands of PPEs and equipment items for the SUS hospital network, and the distribution of 80,000 basic-needs grocery packages, among other numerous actions.

“This award reinforces the importance of the Brazilian science and the role of the Brazil’s Unified Health System for the country. We have been very successful in this collective movement. A true teamwork. I believe the legacy that remains is the recognition of the efficiency of our public institutions, so much necessary, and the certainty that it is possible to construct partnerships with several different society sectors to enhance their initiatives”, stated the Fiocruz Fund Raising Office’s coordinator, Luis Donadio, during the grant award ceremony.   

The purpose of the Enap awards is to value people, knowledge and good practices. The proposal is to spread initiatives that generate value for the public administration and society. The winning works can be a source of inspiration and replicability, contributing to an increase in the quality of the public policies and the services provided to population. In this edition, Fiocruz competed with other six great initiatives.

United Against Covid-19 is an accomplishment by Fiocruz, leaded by the Vice Presidency of Institutional Management and Development (VPGDI), through its Fund-Raising Office (EC/Fiocruz). The financial execution is under the responsibility of the Foundation for Scientific and Technological Development in Health, through an exclusive emergency fund account.

Fiotec Participation

The project coordinator, Daniele Gomes, has told the program required from Fiocruz and Fiotec an adaptation of the existing processes, in addition to the creation of a new performing way in order to enable a quick response from the institution, together with the civil society, to address the pandemic. “The program, in spite of being located in the Project Management’s cell of external financiers, works as a big gear between initiation, supporting and articulating the new national and international donations, and execution, implementing the actions together with the coordinators assigned for the execution of the work plans and accounting, demonstrating to the partners the correct execution for the funds”, she says. According to her, the first place in the category brings a recognition and wholly awards Fiotec for the effort employed in its mission accomplishment.
