On May 21, Fiotec’s headquarters hosted the 143rd meeting of the institution’s Board of Trustees, which marked the renewal of mandates and the appointment of new members who will now directly contribute to the foundation’s governance and financial sustainability.  

During the meeting,  Fábio Rodrigues Lamin was elected Chair of the Board of Trustees. On the occasion, the group also reviewed Fiotec’s financial accountability report for the year 2025, which had previously been approved by the institution’s Fiscal Council and by the former composition of the Board of Trustees itself. Executive Director Cristiane Sendim and Finance Manager Alexandre Valinoti also attended the meeting, reinforcing Fiotec’s commitment to transparency and sound resource management.

Import quota for scientific research: CNPq, MCTI and Andifes seek alternatives together with the Attorney General’s Office (AGU).  

A meeting seeking alternatives for importing goods and inputs for scientific research, involving the Attorney General’s Office (AGU), the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), and the National Association of Directors of Federal Higher Education Institutions (Andifes), was held on May 20 at the AGU headquarters in Brasília.  

At the meeting, held at the initiative of the MCTI, the CNPq advocated for an increase in the annual import quota for scientific research allocated by the Federal Revenue Service to the agency, given that this is the main mechanism used by universities, research institutes, and scientists to acquire equipment and supplies manufactured abroad.  

CNPq also expressed support for the position of Andifes that universities and institutes should be able to carry out imports for research purposes directly or through support foundations, relying on the constitutional provision of tax immunity for federal entities—thereby creating an alternative to conducting such imports through the CNPq quota.  

The president Olival Freire Jr. represented CNPq at the meeting, which was attended by Minister Luciana Santos; the Deputy Attorney General of the Union, Flavio José Roman; the vice-president and coordinator of the Science & Technology and Entrepreneurship Commission of Andifes, Dácio Matheus; the legal advisor of MCTI, Diana Azin; and the chief legal officer attached to CNPq, Sheila Bacellar.  

As a follow-up, the Deputy Attorney General of the Union proposed the continuation of discussions, suggesting that a new meeting be held shortly to address the matter within the scope of SEJAN (Chamber for the Promotion of Legal Certainty in the Business Environment) of the Attorney General’s Office (AGU).
