September is marked by significant changes at Fiotec. Based on one of its values, the institution has taken an important step towards breaking up with plastic altogether. This Tuesday (17), all employees were given a sustainable kit containing reusable bottles and cups - the cup is made of rice fibers. This means all plastic cup dispensers spread throughout the institution have been removed.
Fiotec extends its action to partners and visitors as well: they will have the option of using reusable cups, such as those used by the employees, properly sterilized, or they can choose biodegradable cups made of cornstarch.
With this initiative, the institution intends to consume as little plastic as possible. As globalization and consummerism advance, more garbage is created, which are discarded in sanitary landfills, that have a lifespan of only 20 years. Much of their impact is irreversible, but all institutions must embrace their responsibility with the environment, if they want the current scenario to change.
Environmental awareness
At the beginning of the month, between September 2nd and 6th, Fiotec had its Environment Week, with symbolic and social activities to raise awareness regarding the importance of preserving the environment. During the event, 15 tree seedlings were planted around the building and a lecture was given on the importance of recycling, mediated by professionals of the Cogic/Fiocruz Department of Environmental Management.
One of Fiotec’s values is respect for life, for human dignity and for the environment. For this reason, the institution will always seek to put into practice actions to raise awareness about these issues.
