Up to the end of September this year, the United against Covid-19 program had received more than 450 million reais donated by 824 people and 127 institutions in Brazil and worldwide. Government and private companies participating in the program financed projects in 56 different work plans, divided into the areas of production of diagnostic kits; assistance to patients; medication production; staff training; community mobilization and support; reliable communication; research applied on solutions for understanding Covid-19.

In the past few months, the program’s resources were applied to actions that support vulnerable populations whose situation has been made worse by the pandemic, by means of donated food baskets and personal hygiene items. It was also possible to adapt laboratories for pre-clinical trials in non-human primates, with the goal of developing new vaccines. And in Rio de Janeiro, an initiative connected to the program hopes to understand and mitigate the effects of Covid-19 in the life of black girls who attend public schools and dwell in socially vulnerable regions.

In addition to the financial management and accountability of United against Covid-19, Fiotec is still in charge of the resources destined to the centers of analysis in Rio de Janeiro, more specifically in Manguinhos, and in the Eusébio Industrial Health Center in the state of Ceará. The operation of these plants allows Fiocruz to respond rapidly to the demand of wide testing of the population served by the public health network.

The Hospital Center for the Covid-19 Pandemic of the Evandro Chagas National Infectiology Institute (INI/Fiocruz) has used equipment and hospital consumables acquired by Fiotec since its construction. The institution also hires health professionals who work at the unit on a daily basis, treating Covid-19 patients.
