Between January 28nd and February 1st, the International Project team, responsible for managing the “implementation of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (ImPrEP)” project at Fiotec, visited the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) of Mexico and the Cayetano Heredia Peruvian University (UPCH) to discuss details regarding this initiative.
The current team, represented by the supervisor of International Projects, Lidiane Lima, and by the analysts Eduardo Diek and Renan Capossi, performed a second visit to partners institutions, as established by the Unitaid schedule, organization responsible for the project financing. The main objective of these meetings was to monitor the financial part of the project. During these meetings, topics such as financial report control, which were sent to the funding organization, reviewing of acquisitions report and 2019 budget were discussed.
According to Renan, the meetings served not only to verify the current project status, but also to set future goals. “We were able to check the progress of the second year of the project, the challenges for the third year, our objectives to perform the audit, which shall take place next May. And, also, program a possible schedule for August, in which we suggested to Unitaid to bring them (UNFPA and UPCH) to Brazil. These visits were very productive”, he said.
About the Project
ImPrEP is an international project, which started in 2017, involving institutions from three different countries: Brazil, Mexico, and Peru. This project is financed by Unitaid, and it is a global health initiative that works with partners to end several global epidemics. The goal of the project is to reduce the risk of HIV infection by making antiretroviral drugs available for approximately 7,500 non-infected individuals. The study is led by Fiocruz, through the Laboratory for Clinical Research on DST and AIDS (LAPCLIN - AIDS) along with the Brazilian Ministry of Health, and it includes the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) of Mexico and the Cayetano Heredia Peruvian University (UPCH).
