In January, Fiotec revalidated its accreditation with the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). With this renewal, the institution maintains tax exemption on the importation of goods intended for research, as provided for in Law No. 8,010/90, benefiting projects developed by Fiocruz.
The legislation ensures that Scientific and Technological Institutions (ICTs) and non-profit entities, such as Fiotec, can import, without taxation, a series of essential items for scientific and technological development. The exemption covers taxes on industrialized products, in addition to freight for the renewal of the merchant navy, in addition to being levied on the acquisition of machinery, equipment, apparatus and instruments, as well as their components, spare parts, accessories, raw materials and intermediate products.
The annual limit for the use of the benefit is determined by the Ministry of Economy and managed by CNPq. The foundation's updated accreditation ensures that this quota continues to be used, facilitating the import process and significantly reducing costs for supported research projects.
This has been renewed for a period of five years, from December 27th, 2024 to December 27th, 2029. The official document that proves Fiotec’s legalized situation is available for consultation here on the institution's website: Fiotec - Accreditations and Certificates. This renewal reaffirms Fiotec's commitment to the development of scientific and technological research in Brazil, ensuring better conditions for the import of inputs essential to advances in the area.
