Fiotec will manage the 13 projects approved in the call for proposals Sustainable and Healthy Territories in the Covid-19 pandemic context, linked to the Fiocruz Program for the Innovation Promotion, or "Inova Fiocruz". The initiatives were selected based on criteria of territorial, regional, population, and thematic representativeness, in addition to fitting the call budget possibility. The coordination of the Institutional Program for Sustainable and Healthy Territories (PITSS), of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, also participated directly in the project selection process.

The public notice launched has as its main goal the strengthening of PITSS, a program aimed at inducing, articulating, and strengthening territorialized actions that promote health and sustainability in the territories, considering the integration of knowledge and practices on the socio-environmental determination of health and the integrality of the United Nations Agenda 2030. An August 2020 decree, signed by Fiocruz president Nísia Trindade, transformed the Observatory of Sustainable and Healthy Territories of Bocaina (OTSS) into a permanent program of the Foundation, which has been supported by Fiotec since its first activities in 2009.

The recently ended selection chose initiatives aimed at identifying and fighting the Covid-19 in socially vulnerable territories, at caring for the elderly in the post-pandemic period, and at developing social technologies to fight the coronavirus in quilombola communities. There are still projects focused on solutions for socio-environmental vulnerability in the pandemic context and women's health surveillance in the face of Covid-19, covering several states, from Tocantins to Rio de Janeiro, and including the Brazil’s Northeast and Midwest.
