For the first time, Rio de Janeiro hosted the Global Foundations Summit – Governance, Sustainability and Social Impact in April, an event that brought together representatives of the Federal Government, oversight and control bodies, and professionals from various foundations across Brazil for a day dedicated to cooperation and debate on prospects for the future of the third sector.
The meeting brought together some of the leading references in the field of foundations and third-sector organizations in Brazil, in panels that discussed the new relationships between the State, the market, and organized civil society institutions.
Considered one of the leading support foundations for scientific and technological research institutions, Fiotec was present at the event and actively participated in the discussions raised. Marianna Camargo, legal manager of the foundation, moderated the panel Institutional Identity, Governance, and Professionalization of Foundation Entities, which brought together Dr. Renné Souza from the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Mato Grosso (MPMT), Dr. José Eduardo Sabo Paes from the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Federal District (MPDF), Andrea Lengruber from the Faculty of Engineering (FEN) at UERJ, as well as Gustavo Amaral, president of the Severino Sombra Foundation (Fusave).
After a lunch break, it was the turn of Cristiane Sendim, Executive Director of Fiotec, to take part in the panel Global Public Administration and Internationalized Foundations. On the occasion, the manager was able to speak about Fiotec’s efforts to follow and strengthen the internationalization process of Fiocruz, a foundation it has supported for nearly 30 years. Participating in the discussions alongside Cristiane were Professor Claucir Costa, president of the Artur Leão Foundation (Fabom), which supports the Military Fire Department of the State of Rio de Janeiro; state representative Tia Ju, vice president of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj); and Dr. José Marinho Paulo Júnior from the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the State of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ).
In addition to Marianna Camargo and Cristiane Sendim, Fiotec sent a representative delegation to the Global Foundation Summit, composed of professionals from its Legal, Finance, Information Technology, Projects, People Management, Logistics, Communications, Integrity and Compliance, and Information Security areas. This reflects the institution’s commitment to all initiatives that discuss alternatives for the development of research and innovation in the country.
