The Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), the National Health Foundation (Funasa), and the Ministry of Health have announced the results of the 1st Environmental Health Experiences Showcase. Among the selected initiatives is the Bocaina Observatory for Healthy and Sustainable Territories (OTSS), a partnership between Fiocruz and the Forum of Traditional Communities of Angra dos Reis, Paraty, and Ubatuba (FCT).

The 1st Edition of the Exhibition received 86 applications, of which 30 were selected to be part of a PAHO/WHO publication. The authors of the papers selected in first place, in each theme, were also invited to present their experience in the 1st Environmental Health Experience Showcase, in celebration of the World Environmental Health Day. This celebration will be part of the opening of the 3rd National Seminar on Environmental Health Surveillance, on September 27th.

The OTSS

Founded in a partnership between Fiocruz and the Forum of Traditional Communities of Angra dos Reis, Paraty, and Ubatuba (FCT), the Bocaina Observatory for Sustainable and Healthy Territories (OTSS) is a technopolitical space for the generation of strategic knowledge, based on the dialogue between traditional and scientific know-how, for the development of strategies that promote sustainability, health, and rights for the well being of traditional communities in their territories.

With the support of the Foundation for Scientific and Technological Development in Health (Fiotec), OTSS works in indigenous, quilombola, and caiçaras territories in Angra dos Reis, Paraty, and Ubatuba in the areas of ecological sanitation, agroecology, community-based tourism (CBT), health promotion, differentiated education, socio-environmental justice, social cartography, incubation of social technologies, and territorialized monitoring of the 2030 Agenda.
