The Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) has released an impact report of the United against Covid-19 program, containing a summary of the initiatives promoted by the institution to fight the pandemic. The report contextualizes the use of the resources received through the program, between April 2nd and November 13, 2020, with the goal of measuring with more accuracy the reach and the direct consequences of the donations.
The program is the result of a partnership between the civil society, government and private companies that finance projects in 49 work plans. In seven months of campaign, 95 institutions and 2397 people made donations for an overall amount of 476 million reais.
Among the initiatives benefitted by the program are the expansion of testing capacity, internalization of technology and vaccine production, support to vulnerable populations, health assistance, and research. In addition to immediate actions, the donations also left a legacy to the society as a whole, such as Hospital Centers destined to Covid-19, a plant for vaccine production, equipment to strengthen the hospitals of the Unified Health System (SUS), among others.
Fiotec is responsible for the operational management of the projects and by financial accountability, contributing, with its expertise, to the management of projects. This has made it possible to improve and speed up all internal control processes in order to optimize operations and for a more effective use of the resources.
