The Joaquim Fontes Municipal School, in Cidade de Deus, was revitalized. The initiative is part of the Verde que te Quero Ver project, a partnership between the Institute of Drug Technology (Farmanguinhos/Fiocruz), the Fiocruz Support Foundation (Fiotec) and the Alfazendo Group, which aims to strengthen municipal schools in the region, thinking about sustainable development and integral health.

The action reinforces institutional values and highlights the Institute's commitment to education, citizens and society. "Being able to help and contribute to this school is a great pleasure. The work done by the technical staff is excellent and is done with great dedication, creativity and respect. Early childhood is the fundamental part for the development of the adult citizen, giving notions of respect and life in community, in addition to the right to live in an appropriate environment and with satisfactory conditions for the creative and collaborative development for a life in society", highlighted the director of Farmanguinhos, Jorge Mendonça.

In this second stage of works, the complete renovation of the kitchen and pantry, the revitalization of the central courtyard as a play and reading space and the installation of gutters and collectors for rainwater collection were carried out. These improvements aim to directly impact the quality of life of students and employees, in addition to making the environment welcoming and healthy.

The bathroom for students and support staff was also restored, as a way to ensure more comfort and hygiene for users. In addition, in order to make the place more conducive to learning and creativity, the facades and doors of the classrooms were artistically painted. As a result of the first stage of the project, the Natures Sensory Garden also underwent maintenance. Read more about the space.

The person responsible for the Social Management Advisory of Farmanguinhos, Magali Portela, thanked all the school employees for continuing to transform lives, even in a fragile environment. "The revitalization process is long and continuous. This stage is just one of the parts included in the project that will continue to support the school. It is essential that, increasingly, we have more healthy and sustainable spaces, which can promote the health and well-being of the population", she added.

A partner of Farmanguinhos since the first stage of the project, Fiotec has been working in the financial and administrative management of resources and more recently in the transfers made to the Alfazendo Group, a community organization that has been operating in the territory for more than 30 years. The joint work between the three institutions makes it possible to develop this important initiative to strengthen the community and promote sustainability.
