Fiotec's work was the subject of an event that discussed Fiocruz's Management System and the perspectives for the development of Science and Technology Institutions (ICTs) last week. The Fiocruz Planning Forum brought together representatives from various units of the Foundation, control bodies and government entities, as well as Fiotec managers.
During his speech at one of the event's opening tables, Mario Moreira, president of Fiocruz, emphasized, among other things, the strategic importance of Fiotec for the Foundation's Management System. The doctor in Public Policy argued that over the last few years the support foundation has developed and refined its work in shared project management alongside Fiocruz.
The relationship between Fiotec and the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation was discussed in a specific panel on the afternoon of March 11th. Invited to the conversation were the deputy executive director of Fiocruz, and president of Fiotec's Board of Trustees, Priscila Ferraz; as well as Cristiane Sendim, executive director of the support foundation. Fiotec's manager began her speech by mentioning the other directors who make up the current management, as well as the strategic coordination focused on integrity and compliance that was recently structured to meet society's growing demand on these issues, and at the same time the demands made by international funders with whom the institution has relations.
Cristiane continued her presentation by showing figures that reinforce the institution's growth over the last few years, managing ever-increasing amounts of money earmarked for research, study and health care initiatives developed by Fiocruz. "The work we did during the [Covid-19] pandemic, discussed here at the morning tables, took place within this context of Fiotec's growth alongside Fiocruz. It was proof of the institution's maturity," she said, adding that Fiotec's position in the third sector, its legal nature, makes it possible to optimize many processes that in public administration are extremely rigid.
She then listed some of the projects supported by Fiotec that stand out for their relevance and impact on the lives of Brazilians. According to Cristiane, over the years the support foundation has developed the capacity to manage initiatives in a wide range of areas with increasing efficiency. "It's always important to point out that Fiotec is not responsible for the technical side of the projects, which is always developed by Fiocruz. Fiotec will operate in logistics, financial management, purchasing and administrative processes necessary for the smooth running of these projects."
During the pandemic, for example, the institution supported the construction of the Covid-19 Hospital Center, a structure maintained to this day on Fiocruz's Manguinhos-Maré campus; as well as the development of diagnostic tests for coronavirus and the Covid-19 Fiocruz Vaccine.
