On May 29, Fiotec’s headquarters hosted a meeting celebrating the six-year anniversary of the Integrated Health Plan in Favelas, an initiative that has already benefited more than 1 million people across 175 favelas in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The partnership between Fiocruz, Fiotec, the Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj), public universities, and civil society organizations currently operates in communities across 33 municipalities.
The meeting was dedicated to the results achieved by the Plan and to the possibilities for action in the coming years. In addition to Richarlls Martins, executive coordinator of the initiative, and members of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj), including state representative Renata Souza and former Assembly president André Ceciliano, the event brought together the team responsible for implementing the Plan, representatives from Fiocruz, Fiotec, and other partner organizations.
During the meeting, Rômulo Carvalho, from Fiotec’s Projects team, highlighted the role played by the supporting foundation in the operationalization of the Plan. According to him, the institution played a central role in supporting the organizations selected through the public calls promoted by the Integrated Plan, “especially with regard to accountability and transparency in the use of available resources.” The manager also emphasized that the meeting was an important opportunity to discuss possible improvements in the program’s implementation, such as strengthening communication among the actors involved.
